Michael Oladimeji Faborode, a Professor of Agricultural Engineering and Registered Professional Michael Oladimeji Faborodeis currently the Secretary-General of the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU/CVC). He served a 5-year tenure as Vice Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, 2006-2011. Before then, he was Dean of engineering (2002-2006) and Head of Department of Agricultural Engineering (1996-2002). He was President of the West African Society for Agricultural Engineering, 2002-2004, former Vice President, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering. Prof Faborode received his BSc and MSc degrees at the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria and his PhD at the University of Newcastle upon Type, United Kingdom. A thorough-bred academic, his academic accomplishments can be summarized by the fact that “even as Vice Chancellor, he was leading a British DFID funded research project and supervised PhD research students”. This commitment continues up until now. His research interests include biomaterial properties and bioprocess engineering; technology policy; technology, gender and development, and currently higher education and development. He was recently a Resident Scholar at the Rockefeller Foundation Study Centre at Bellagio, Italy working on his upcoming texts: “Triumph of Good in Journey through the forest of a thousand demons” and “Higher Education for Development”.
