Professor Abraham HaileAmlak is Vice President for Health Service and Local Training Facilities, and Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Child Health at Jimma University in Ethiopia. He is a consultant pediatrician with over fifteen years of experience in health care service in rural Ethiopia. For the last seven years, he has worked in the Jima University’s teaching hospital, providing clinical services. He teaches undergraduate medical students, as well as health officers and postgraduate anesthesia and pediatric residents.
Prof. HaileAmlak has been involved in the top leadership of Jimma University, the second biggest University in Ethiopia. He worked as Vice Director of the University’s hospital for two years, and as Vice President of the University for seven years. He is now the Dean of College of Public Health and Medical Sciences of Jimma University. He served and is currently serving as the editor-in-chief of Ethiopian Journal of Health Sciences since 2006. Nationally, he has worked as an external examiner of medical students and pediatric residents in Addis Ababa University and Gondar University. Internationally, he has done research with Nottingham University, U.K. He did short term trainings on pediatric cardiology in Ludwig Maximilian University in Germany and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology in Wolfson Medical Center in Israel.
He received his Doctor of Medicine (1991), Faculty of Medicine, and Certificate of Specialty in Paediatrics and Child Health (2000) from Addis Ababa University Medical School, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He is a member of the Ethiopian Society of Paediatrics, and the Ethiopian Public Health Association, the Ethiopian Medical Association, and is the Chair of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society.
