"The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has 25 medical schools, with only one located in a rural area. While this mirrors the distribution of practicing doctors, it is in contrast to the population distribution of 70% living in rural areas. Thus, the DRC experiences the same physician maldistribution that plagues the world at large but most dramatically affects the developing world. In an effort to determine whether rural location of a medical school can positively impact physician distribution, the author compares the rural versus urban practice location of graduates from this rurally located private medical school with those from an urban private medical school."
