Clinical Training Rotations for Medical Students and Resident Doctors in PEPFAR-supported Rural Hospitals in Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria
One of the greatest challenges of healthcare in Nigeria is the urbanization of the health workforce, particularly in the northern regions. Typically, in these regions, over 90% of the medical doctors and nurses live and work in the State capitals where no more than 30% of the population resides. About 94% of newly qualified doctors in Nigeria plan to embark on postgraduate residency training programs which are currently confined to few ‘Ivory Towers’ in cities.
